About Our Atlanta Law Firm
Our Firm’s History
After graduating from Emory University’s School of Law in 1980, James A. Goldstein began working for a small law firm, which represented the leading banks and corporations on the south side of Atlanta. Jim’s capabilities were quickly noticed and he was made a partner in less than three years, the fastest rise ever in the firm. After successfully defending Fulton County and other entities in a series of wrongful death trials, Jim concluded that his talents would be better utilized representing injury victims.
Jim split from the firm in the mid 1980’s and founded what is now Goldstein & Hayes, PC, an Atlanta law firm specializing in personal injury. While the name of the firm has changed from time to time, Jim has been the senior, first name partner in every practice he has been a part of since 1986. He has been directly responsible for attaining a multitude of million dollar plus recoveries upon which the reputation of the firm is based.
Jim is identified by Fortune Magazine as one of America’s Premier Lawyers (regularly featured on business shows), is one of The American Trial Lawyers Association’s Top 100 Georgia Trial Lawyers, is one of The National Trial Lawyers Association’s Top 100 Georgia Trial Lawyers and he maintains the highest rating for ethical standards and professional ability available from Martindale- Hubbell, a testament to the fact that Jim’s peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence. Jim served on the 2013 Executive Committee for the National Trial Lawyers Association and was recently selected to serve on the 2014 Executive Committee.
Jonathan P. Hayes clerked for the firm prior to attending law school, returning during summer vacations and holidays. Following his graduation, Jonathan immediately assumed a full caseload including case preparation and trial presentation. In 2005, Jonathan was offered and accepted a name partnership—a recognition of his unusually high quality of work and proven litigation capabilities. In a relatively short time, Jonathan delivered numerous million-dollar-plus recoveries and established legal precedent and national attention for expansive penalties for intentional corporate evidence destruction.
Jonathan was selected as one of the American Trial Lawyers Association’s Top 100 Georgia Trial Lawyers, one of the National Trial Lawyers Association’s Top 100 Georgia Trial Lawyers, one of Georgia’s Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 and he was selected to serve on the National Advisory Board for the Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America and the 2013 Executive Committee for the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Lawyers Under 40.
Each year since 2007, Jonathan has been recognized by Georgia Super Lawyers, a rating service limited to 5% of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Jonathan is an active member of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, an organization dedicated to saving lives through drowning prevention and water safety efforts.
The goal of our Atlanta, Georgia personal injury law practice is to help individuals and families begin to put their lives back together after a traumatic accident or event. Jim Goldstein and Jonathan Hayes are dedicated to devoting the time and resources necessary to carefully prepare each case for trial in order to attain the maximum compensation for our clients and hold those responsible accountable.

Philosophy & Attitude
Goldstein & Hayes, PC has received the highest rating available from Martindale Hubbell, an independent service that gauges legal abilities based on the opinions of other lawyers, not advertising dollars. While we occasionally lecture, teach and author publications, we differ philosophically from firms that avail themselves to every marketing and self-promotion opportunity. Many lawyers trumpet their victories but say little about their losses that could have and should have been avoided. We are pleased to have been able to establish an enviable history without ever placing the firm’s interests ahead of our clients.
Our lawyers take the time to get to know the families we represent, which allows us to tailor our strategies to their specific strengths. We strive to show our appreciation of the trust our clients and their family members place in us during what is invariably a difficult time in their lives. We view and treat those we are privileged to represent as our friends and encourage their calls and questions. While the tone of the firm is casual, our work product is second to none. To help you decide if our personalities, style and approach are a good match for you, we recommend a free personal consultation.
